Motivation - three good reasons for using pixafe mobile

  • The displays of digital cameras are small. You would like to view your images in a higher resolution and sort out the ones that don't meet your standard. With pixafe mobile, you can view all your images - either separately or on the light box. The magnifying glass shows every detail.
  • Large memory cards lead to images being archived a long time after being shot. In the meantime, you might have forgotten important details. Pixafe mobile makes it possible to add notes or spoken comments directly after your shooting or trip. You can use this to store vital information, such as who/what is on the image, where it was taken, keywords, categories, descriptions or author. Master data can be added via XML-file directly into pixafe mobile, so that you do not have to enter everything manually. For captioning, simply select people, locations etc via intelligent lists. If you are using the pixafe image database for archiving, you can adopt the terms used for keywords, locations, etc automatically.
  • The labelled images are taken over by the archiving system automatically: PAI-Autoinsert files are generated for pixafe, for all other systems XML-files containing the captions in a machine readable format are available. These exports can be used to as imports for any other archiving systems or to fill any personal solution with Excel etc.

Easy installation, even easier use

  • Simply insert your camera's memory card into your PDA and start pixafe mobile. Then, all images from the selected image directory - including all subdirectories - are displayed. These can then be viewed individually, or with the help of a light box, and can be deleted if necessary.
  • If you would like to make a note to an image, simply click on the labelling tab: Here, you enter all necessary information concerning people, locations, keywords, etc, or you simply record a spoken note. This data is automatically saved when you switch to the next image, and automatically loaded when you display that image again. Especially useful: Just as with it's big brother, the pixafe image database, multiple images can be marked to label them all at once.
  • pixafe mobile reads the EXIF-data of the images and displays this. In this way, you have all the important information on the image in one clock: date and time of the shot, aperture, camera brand and model, focus, GPS coordinates, ... this data is also used to rotate the preview images the right way up - without any manual input. If your camera does not provide this information, you can also rotate the preview images manually.
  • The original images on the memory card are never modified; only the automatically generated preview images are rotated.
  • pixafe mobile is intuitively usable, due to its modern icons and the extensive online help.

Screenshots

The following screenshots show some of the functions of pixafe mobile.

The labelling tab can contain information to the depicted people, locations, keywords, categories and also a up to 2000 letter long description text to the image. These elements can be selected via drop-down boxes or checklists while entering the data.

All elements can be selectively stored in the clipboard. In this way, labelling can be assigned to all images, or a selected group with only one click. It can also be determined if you would like to overwrite any existing comments in this way, or add the label to what is already there.

Pixafe mobile can be customised to cater for specialised needs over the preferences.

Paths for image directory, note directory and export directory can be customised individually. The images to be labelled are in the image directory. You can chose if you would like to view the directory including all sub-directories or not.

If your memory card is full, you can place the note directory in a different place on your PDA. Your notes are stored here, and also the automatically generated thumbnails.

Export files are stored in the export directory. These are generally XML-files to either import into the archive systems of your choice, or manually process in Excel, for example.

If pixafe PAI is selected as export format, the labelled images can be transferred into the pixafe image database via the pixafe import-mechanism.

You can switch the language of all labelling elements, menus, buttons etc by clicking on the flags. Pixafe mobile currently supports 5 languages.

In order to prevent having to enter people, locations, keywords etc manually for every image, it is possible to select them from lists.

This master-data can be imported via an XML-file. You can either create this file manually, or you can use the possibility to export your existing labelling elements out of the pixafe image database as a master-data XML-file.

Pixafe mobile reads the EXIF-data of the images and displays them in a table. This is very practical for quick viewing of information on date and time of the shot, aperture, camera brand and model, focus, GPS coordinates and much more.

Furthermore, pixafe mobile considers EXIF-field orientation while generating preview images. In this way, images in panel format are automatically rotated the right way up. If your camera does not support the new EXIF-field, pixafe mobile offers the option to rotate preview images manually.

The light box is ideal for browsing through all your images. Here, it is possible to select individual images, in order to label or delete them later.

All functions are described in detail in the context sensitive help, which is also delivered in 5 languages.
